The vibrant atmosphere, folkloric costumes worn by Volendam’s inhabitants, and the traditional music are part of the local culture of this picturesque town.

Where the river Zaan meets the green meadows full of grazing cows, you will find one of the most famous landmarks of the Netherlands: the windmills of Zaanse Schans. This line-up of the oldest windmills in Holland is like a skyline on the horizon of the flat country, with the windmills rotating around their axis in order to catch the wind.
