Red Light District (De Wallen)
De Wallen or Red Light district is the center of the Old Amsterdam and in fact the oldest area of the city. I will show you there is so much more to see in this area than just the redlights.

As the Old Church is the oldest building of Amsterdam. There is so much history to tell. Nowadays the church has many modern art exhibitions. You can see variety old tombstones. One of them is the grave of the wife of Rembrandt van Rijn.

Without Dam there wouldn't have been an Amsterdam. Everything started with this dam in the river Amstel around the year 1250. Icons on this square are the Palace and the New Church. I will explain the history of the palace and maybe we can see some royals, because the palace is still used as guesthouse for visiting royalty.

The Munt Tower was one of the city gates in the period Amsterdam was still surrounded by a city wall. This gate was called the Reguliersgate. Next to the Munt tower is the famous Amsterdam flower market.

The waag is one of the city gates in the period Amsterdam was still surrounded bij a city wall. The waag is in the center of a colorful square between the canals, Chinatown and the redlight district.

Zeedijk
This street is actually a dike, which used to protect Amsterdam from the floods caused by the (Zuiderzee) sea. Nowerdays the sea is no sea anymore but turned into a lake, but the remainings of the dike are still there.
