Overview

Walk with us and be surprised by the sculptures of Hildo Krop, Jaap Kaas, Theo Vos, Antoon Rädecker, Frits van Hall and Henri Wezelaar, among others, and learn all about the construction of Plan Zuid by Berlage. The wealth of architectural sculpture in Berlage's Art Deco district (built between 1920-1940 in Amsterdam Zuid) is enormous. On bridges, facades and parks you'll find surprising sculptures full of symbolism. They tell the history of modern times 100 years ago.

What To Expect

We start the tour at the Apollo House, Apollolaan 15, a modernist building from 1938. At the entrance there are two high bronze statues of Hildo Krop and Han Wezelaar. The statues symbolize the tasks of the Social Insurance Bank that commissioned the construction. There follows a short introduction about the design of Plan Zuid by Berlage.
